If you paid your $20 to be a member of the foundation (if you haven't paid for 2017-18 yet, you can pay at the door), come to the Foundation board meeting next Monday to see who will succeed Brendan as the foundation President. A big Well Done to Brendan for heading up the foundation for several years (Is it true that the foundation presidency is a stepping stone to the club presidency?). The meeting starts at 5:30 in the Small Hall (VFW Room) at the Veterans Bldg in Solvang. The Small Hall is the one closest to Mission Drive.
Annual dues of $150 are now payable. Bring a check to the next meeting or mail it to PO BOx 903, Los Olivos CA 93441. You can also just pay half now and half in January if you prefer.

An election of two new directors will be held. We have five hold-over directors so the total of seven directors will get together at a later meeting to elect a President, Secretary and Chief Financial Officer.

OUR SPEAKER for the evening was our fellow member Jim Lohnas. Jim is the chair of our Los Olivos Jazz & Olive festival. Our thirteenth annual festival washeld Saturday June 3 rd , 2017. It must be noted that Jim had the original idea behind our very successful festival and has chaired the event since the beginning.Jim recapped the idea behind this effort.
WHY do we do it ? Service above self isthe answer. We raise the money to give scholarships to worthy students, andgive to other worthwhile non-profit organizations locally and around the world.
HOW do we do it? By creating a plan of action and asking a group of “SuperStars” ( all of us Rotarians) to follow the plan and improve on it each year. Jim called on our Chief Financial Officer, Gabi Robbins, to comment on the
“results” of our efforts in dollars from the event. The final checks and bills arealmost in but she does feel confident in reporting the final numbers.
Jim thanked a number of” Super Stars” including Jim Pugh and Rich Nagler forentertainment; Brendan Doherty and Joe Sanguinet for Physical Site Planning;Gabi Robbins for Ticket Sales: Peter Robbins for Promotion; Jim Lohnas for
O’Chefs; Dave Bemis for Vintners; Steve Berg for Programs; Alice Berg for Merchandise; Steve Berg for Sponsors; Dave Lawerence for Silent Auction; Toni Coble & Inge Lise Petersen for Event Day Coordinators; Bob Dullea for Vinters
signs; Puck Lohnas and Sarah Larkin for Decorations; Gabi Robbins for Financial
Director; Ulises Castaneda and Sarah Larkin for Water, Soda and Ice; John Mathews for Front Gate; Bob Dullea for Security; and All Club Members who worked on many, many projects on Friday and then Saturday morning during set-
up and then at closing.
HOW do we make it better:
Keep the Silent Auction in the Grange
Keep the Traffic Station Canopy in the rear
Keep the Rental Trucks
Keep the Sandwiches for members again.
Enlarge the waiting area even more
Continue to look at new ideas like possibly making the hours of operation 2:00pm to 5:00 pm on Saturday
Evaluate raising the pricr
Next year possibly going to Saturday June 9 th Sell tickets for the following year at next year’s event
Look into inviting Pro-Chefs
Streamline the Silent Auction check-out even
more
Re-evaluate No Dog policy
Look into placing canopies outside of
the event for those waiting in line
Make sure wash stands are outside for
use at the restrooms or contract with restrooms with wash facility inside.
JIM’S FINAL THOUGHT
WE DON’T DO IT BECAUSE IT’S EASY
BUT BECAUSE ITIS HARD!!
